It identifies existing green spaces, ecological connectivity between natural areas, and gaps in the urban environmental system. The atlas also highlights river buffer zones, environmentally sensitive areas, urban heat mitigation zones, and locations under pressure from rapid urbanization and land-use change.

The atlas supports urban planning, environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable city development by providing spatial information to guide the protection, restoration, expansion, and integration of green and blue infrastructure throughout Addis Ababa.
